These programs help remove everything from Virus to Ad/spyware. All of which can cause problems at Chatro. Right now a type of Adware/Hijack is the most prevelent and problematic.
Shredder is one of the most useful. You will need to run it more than once to get the best results.

You have spyware on your computer that is redirecting your browser. It's called Browser Highjacking.
Please go here and read this: http://www.chatropolis.com/cgi-bin/news/news.cgi?news=2&num=17 and then get the shredder and the patch from Microsoft. http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html#cwshredder
Let me know how you make out. Also look up AdAware. It's a program that is free on the net and used to remove spyware. You should get it and run it also but after you run the CW Shredder. - Updated: July 3, 2004

With the release of OSX 10.1 Apple's Safari and IE for mac will not work at Chatropolis. Mozilla Firefox (formerly Firebird), which uses a large amount of the Mozilla code, is a lean and fast browser that is written using Extensible User Interface Language (XUL). - Updated: June 19, 2004
Netscape Communicator, Internet Explorer, Opera, Netscape 7 in HTTP 1.0, Firefox, Mozilla 1.7 in HTTP 1.0 all work well in the site. Netscape (straight version) 6 seems to have a mind of it's own and we recommend you uninstall it and use something else.
Use Advanced Options located on all entrances to choose HTTP/1.0 instead of HTTP/1.1 if your browser fails to display a chat window or closes its connection unexpectedly. I will force the server to use HTTP/1.0.
Some clients, including some versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer, are reported to display slightly aberrant behavior when opening multiple pages using the somewhat more efficient transfer modes offered by HTTP/1.1.
Also check your HTML for errors and disable your proxy if you are using one. - Updated: April 11, 2002
Instead of selecting the option "No Avs" in the filter area of Config, select "Linked Images". You will only see "Image Link" underlined in place of the avs. - Updated: April 7, 2002
The most common cause of this is incorrect HTML in your name/av codes. Most people have incomplete codes (all tags come in pairs), spaces where they shouldn't be, font colors that refer to no letters, incorrect font color codes, URL not enclosed in quotes when an alt tag is used, entering the html for your post colors and format at the entrance and primarily incorrect format. Check your HTML codes. - Updated: April 7, 2002

Browser problems Are you using Netscape 6.whatever? DON'T use a plain Netscape product. Get a Communicator - latest version is 4.79 http://home.netscape.com/download/1126101/10000-en-win32-4.79-complete-128_qual.html
Is your browser old? Update it if you are using a communicator 4.70 or lower, IE 5.0 or lower, or one that is customized by your ISP (provider)
Another cause is using a proxy. Please refer to the question on proxies because you need to disable yours. - Updated: April 11, 2002
Yes, this is normal behavior. This is to prevent someone hitting reload at your workstation and reading PM's. while you are away. - Updated: March 23, 2002
MSN is distributing copies of MSIE where the proxy is hardcoded into the browser. If you remove it it just puts the info back in next time you start IE. We suggest you remoe that copy of IE and download a fresh non-MSN modified version. - Updated: March 23, 2002
In the new server, you must enter all codes for your posts inside the room and not at the Entrance. Only enter your name and av HTML at the Entrance. Once inside the room, click on Config, Message Prefix and enter the HTML codes for your post format and colors. It will save that so you only have to do this one time. - Updated: March 22, 2002
In Netscape click on: Edit Preferences Advanced Proxies Look at the selections there and if you are using a proxy select "Direct connection to the Internet" Click OK and the proxy is turned off..
In IE: Tools Internet Options Connection tab If you are using a dial-up provider the name will be in the white box. Click on it and choose Settings. If Proxy Server is checked, uncheck it, click OK and close the window. If you are using a LAN (cable connection etc.), click on LAN Settings. If Proxy Server is checked, uncheck it, click OK and close the window. - Updated: March 22, 2002
You are either using a proxy provided by your ISP or you are using a browser that is incompatible or has errors in it. The latest Netscape Communicator can be downloaded here: Communicator 4.79 Plain Netscape versions 6 etc. are not compatible and do not process correctly on the site. IE 5.5 seems to work the best if you must use IE though Netscape Communicator is recommended. See Proxy question for directions on checking for proxies. - Updated: March 22, 2002
This is do to a bad proxy server that doesn't seem to want to stream. It occurs on AOL, prodigy, @home and some other services. You need to disable your proxy settings in your browser or download a clean copy of Netscape Communicator. Also read The AOL fix which applies to other services. - Updated: December 20, 2001
