While Netscape works best, you can upgrade Internet Explorer here: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ Select "Product Updates" You then will be presented with a list of "Critical Updates". Check them all and proceed to download. You will begin the download and the patches will be installed for you. In addition to this it's always a good idea to "Defrag" your disk. This can be done by going to START > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > DISK DEFRAGMENTER. It is a good idea to run Disk Cleanup first, then Scan and then Defragmenter. - Updated: October 22, 2001
If you are having problems in our chatrooms including connecting from AOL, Prodigy or @Home or if the center chat page does not load or refuses to function properly you can solve this by downloading Netscape Communicator. DO NOT USE NETSCAPE VERSION 6! It has serious problems. Communicator version 4.7X is the last stable version that functions perfectly with most chatrooms. - Updated: October 22, 2001
A virus is a piece of code usually attached to an innocent looking program that must be executed on the target machine. It can't happen in a chat room. - Updated: October 22, 2001
The Internet runs because everything you contact knows your IP address. It's nothing to be alarmed about. If you want to make it extremely difficult for users to detect your IP simply turn off images when you enter a room.
In some cases knowing your IP could be harmful. For EX. If you work at a security company and your IP address resolves to a meaningful name. Such as judy.smith.a.company.com. Or station1.statepolics.miami.fla.org. In most cases your IP will resolve to a meaningless string that at most will tell your geographical location. EX. 209.244.6.5.miami.uu.net. - Updated: October 22, 2001
