Chatropolis Breaks Chat Records
Yesterday and today we passed the 2000 users in chat and almost 1000 additional users doing other than chat activities. With the installation of the new database server we seem to be able to handle more users and I have no doubt that 3000 users chatting is just around the corner. Up till this point we have not been able to support as many users as thought and yes we were caught off guard.
With 3 additional chatserver in the works we really don't know where the stress point will be. Add the new server (To be released much later than thought, around March) we anticipate a huge influx of users. Between the additional services and MSN Groups shutting down there will be alot of homeless people out there. As usual whenever an operation shuts down we get a surge of users.
Just a note to the woman who slammed me about the new server and wanted the old one back...Honey we haven't installed the new one yet so as an old Asian man told me "Look within". LOL. Have fun and thanks for

How secure is your password?
At Chatro a hacker has two hurdles. First he has to find out your log in name before he can try to hack your password. So if you don't use your log in name as your screen name it ads a layer of security. But for the purpose of this article let's assume your a target and the hacker has your login name. How strong is your password. Considering hacker programs can zip thru thousands of combination rather quickly let's take a look. Assuming 8 characters in a password
If you use a dictionary word it's about 600,000 combination give or take a few. If you use a dictionary word expect to have your acc

IMG Rooms increase to 30 Users Planned
After some analysis we've decided to up the occupancy of th Image (IMG) rooms to 30 non-member users. Since these rooms remain at about 90%++ occupancy we believe this move is needed. As long as it has no adverse effects to the overall system it should stay that way.
The 2 rooms that seem to struggle will be replaced with rooms that will fill up. Our aim is 95% occupancy over a 24 hour period at 30 users per room. If this doesn't work out(Which is doubtful) will reel it back in. But since they are among the most popular they should do the numbers needed to justify the increase in chatter capa

Maintenance Window
Shortly we will be coming upon a "Maintenance Window" reducing the amount of free users allowed online. If people remember last month we had a terrible time with hardware and the users online was jagged to the point of kicking people off whole servers. We performed emergency surgery and are now at a point where we are reliable but not nearly as much as I want us to be.
In the next day or 3 Chatropolis will be upgrading operating systems to 64bit versi(..CLICK LINK ABOVE FOR COMPLETE ARTICLE)

CCSI Selected to build servers
If you're a webmaster that buys custom hardware you know there are a lot of choices out there. Many companies offer pre-made solutions and very competitive prices. The savings some of these company's offer can be irresistable at times. After many days of calls and comparison we decided to go with CCSI for our choice of industrial backplane servers.
All CCSI servers are custom built servers to

Mail Server Revived/Member Av's Recovered
With the use of Black and blue magic, Chanting, Incense and channeling the spirit of the first 286 CPU we have gotten the mailserver back up. It's a miracle so 2 more and I am eligible for Sainthood. Bad side of that is I'm pretty sure I have to be dead for one of them. I'll just call it good luck and leave it at that.
Our 24 hour traffic has been rocking. So much I am speaking with Peer1 about getting on their CDN (Content delivery Network). All that boils down to is Chatropolis is mirrored on a couple thousand servers around the world so everyone gets super fast reaction time when they hit a page. Things like the whochat will download like they are around the corner and they literally will be around the corner for most of the globe.
That's all for now. Have fun.

Mail Server Dies and Alexa Rank SkyRockets!
Today a minor web server died. Unfortunately it also was our mail server so any mail sent to us will not be received until we can move things on to new equipment. We can still be contacted at 352-436-4185 during Normal business hours CST (Please see support page for all numbers). The death of this machine should not have an impact on Chatropolis operations since support has moved to live telephone support 6 months ago email is not that big of a deal.
Now for the great news. As far as I can see there are many different sources on how many websites exist. The lowers among the numbers was 70,000,000,000. Today we ranked 7,129 in the WORLD!!! This is all due to people reading the article below and being counted by Alexa and the increased usage of Chatro. 7,129 and it's all because of you guys. We are now looking way down at the nearest independently owned/operated Adult Chat community. I'm convinced with the new equipment software and 100 new rooms we are unstoppable. The next 365 days are gonna be a blast. Thanks to everyone that tells a friend, writes an article, posts a link, buys a membership. You are all crucial in the success of Chatropolis. I expect 2009 (Our 16th year) to be our biggest ever!. Thanks to All. I think I'll throw a real site party. Not like the ones in the past. A real blowout.

Alien Spotted in Datacenter
Today I actually chatted on the new server. We have been keeping most of this sorta semi secret but I just can't resist telling everyone about it. The interface will have about 30% more chat window space! It is the first thing you notice. Although this is an extreme pre alpha version it feels much smoother. It was actually relaxing to chat on. The userlist updates in realtime and the chat loads as fast as Bush running from a dictionary. The Chat interface is just there when you press the enter button. No loading no delay it's just there and you are in the action. The speed and functionality will add so much to the fun of our chat rooms.
For me to not to be able to put something into words is very rare but I'm kinda sitting here with a happy mentally altered look on my face. It's been a long time since I started the day without a problem of some kind, usually domestic in nature. I think we will make everyone happy with the release of the new server. Older set in there ways users will find it familiar. Younger users will find it more modern and cool. Techheads will marvel at the amazing piece of software it is. This will extend to the Underground but we will NOT be selling this version. It would be like selling a child. So much work has been put into this that it will stay a Chatro exclusive. I'm as happy as someone having a Vodka,Valium and scrambled eggs breakfast.

User Support Has Impact
You may have noticed there are no full page advertisements. I didn't like having them but they paid a significant portions of the bills so they were needed. I think everyone will agree that they sucked big time and sometimes they would have a mind of their own and you would get them multiple times in a row. Also some unscrupulous advertisers would break out of the advertising frame and give you no way out. I personally shut down 2 of these and only God knows how many others there were.
Due to increased support from the users in the form of Memberships it has allowed us to remove them. If support stays steady we will be able to remove more ads and it is possible with a few hundred more members to remove it all together. But these are hard economic times and I don't want anyone to take food off the table for Chatro. But you can still help.
You can download the alexa toolbar listed in an article below it's called "Sparky" for firefox. If your a web Master you can swap links with us. Or you can just tell a friend about us. All of this works towards us being an ad free site. So thanks to our supporters and we hope if you can't support the site by becoming a member you will do any of the things listed above. Even a blog article about us would be appreciated. Just 5 minutes of your time could make a difference. Considering all we give away it's not much to ask for.
Just for shits and giggles I figured out if everyone that used chatro gave us one dollar. Just 100 pennies each would allow us to remove all ads. Increase rooms to unlimited, give everyone member features and make payroll for 10 years. That is amazing. If everyone that had a blog or website gave us a link and downloaded Sparky and told one friend to meet them here the resulting traffic would probably accomplish much of the same. Everyone on the site means they have the ability to change things. The full page ads are just a small portion. I think I'll change my middle name to Obama. Have fun!
