If you want a real scare go to google.com and search for IE exploits, IE problems, IE security,Mcirosoft Spys IE, and the list goes on and on.
The problem is you really can't delete IE without screwing the pooch on your Microsoft operating system. It is so tightly woven into microsoft products that removing it could cause a bunch of problems which is another article altogether.
So what do to. Just sit back and let IE contact Microsoft and exchange God knows what. If you believe them there is no personal info exchanged. People also believed the world was flat and leeches cured medicalproblem. Well turns out leeches do have a medical use for drainingblood out of fingertips and such but the world is round. And every party line isn't true.
I can tell you from personal experiance that Microsoft will make ou repay for a legal copy of XP. I've paid several times for the same package because somehow they got the idea I was running an illegal version. Maybe they asked a Leech crawling on this flat globe of ours.
One step you can do is go to properties/advanced/proxy settings in IE. How ya get there depends on your version but you should be able to find it. Then simply ut 127.0.0.0 for your proxy server. That will point any attempt of IE/OS and they are the same Honestly is there a version of a microsoft operating system that does not have IE on it. Tell me because I'm a buyer...Oh wait something exists. It's called Linux and with KDE and wine you have a decent substitute for Wondoze, winblows or windows.
I suggest you carefully decide if this is for you but I did it and run Firefox on all my machines risk free of Bll Gates asking me for $149.00 another time.
