Wicker baskets can be used in various ways to add charm to your abode. They are inexpensive, available at thrift stores and yard sales for a song, and what's more they are washable.

In the kitchen on that overhang that is above most sinks, hang them in a straight line, spaced nicely, or have some higher then others. If you have no overhang or wallboard screaming for decoration, pick any wall and hang bigger ones at the ready for your use. Maybe, to hold candies, fruit or napkins for family or guests.

Wicker baskets are lovely for holding rolled kitchen towels. When trying to tie a color scheme together cheaply, towels are ideal. The predominant color that is lacking to make the kitchen perfect can be balanced by having a couple towels with that color hanging over the edge of the rolled-towel basket.

Special guests coming for dinner? Buy a flowering plant and place it in basket. After company leaves you have a plant for your garden.

Depending on size and use, it is sometimes nice to line the basket with a colorful scarf, fabric scrap that has been pinked or just plain old paper napkins, or cloth ones.

Don't forget-- Using a big basket, you can stack your cookbooks on a footstool in them-- that should impress your visitors. If the meal stinks, at least they know you tried.

Love you Mike!
