There are many many things that must be considered when making someone a
room Moderator, and not everyone has the qualifications to be one. Time and
patience are two of the most precious commodities for a Moderator because let's
be honest, being a Moderator is more about Chatropolis and its well being than
it will ever be about the person and what they can and cannot say or do. It takes
a selfless soul to do it because there will always be a need for Moderators on
a regular and some times very frequent basis. In an attempt to try and educate users
a little more, here is a list of things that we are looking for when considering a Moderator:
- Membership
To be a Moderator for Chatropolis, you must have a yearly membership.
It shows a committment to Chatropolis in all honesty.
- Committment
Along with having a membership, one expectation of being
a Moderator will be a committment to Chatropolis and not a committment to another chat site. If you are a mod
for another chat site, please do not apply as a Moderator at Chatropolis even if you have a membership with Chatropolis.
This just serves as a pretty obvious conflict of interest and I will not take excuses of having to be two places at once
and not doing it well, multi-tasking and losing track, and the most obvious potential exposure of policies and other
confidential information with any rival site. It does not work in the business world, whether it be online, in a brick and mortar
store, or at the corporate level.
- Time Online
The amount of time that you spend online in Chatropolis has a great deal
to do with your consideration for being a Moderator. It's important to note that also the time "when" you are online
is important as well. Chatropolis is open, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and as such, we need Moderators around the clock.
We are doing our best to provide constant "coverage" over the course of the day. Thus, you might find your application
turned down, because we already have a large number of Moderators around at that point in time. Or, because of time
constraints in your chatting ability, you might not be able to apply enough time towards Chatropolis.
- Own Computer
Some people that chat at Chatropolis don't own their own computers. As
a result, they use lab or library computers, borrow a friend's computer, or borrow a roommate's computer In the interest
of trying to make sure that the Moderators can be separated and the Moderator information kept private, I request that you
have your own connection to the internet, either at work, or at home, that is not used
by others.
- Anonymity
Due to the demand on the Moderators, we will use common MOD login names to preserve
anonymity of the volunteers. This way they are not hounded while having a relaxing evening of their own. Part of this requires
all Moderators to log into a separate MOD account. This is not to be divulged to anyone and this is not to be made aware of to
anyone so anonymity is preserved. If you do not have a desire to log into another acocunt and to remember yet another username
and password then please do not apply.
- Maturity
This is one of the most important qualifications, and the hardest to judge. A Moderator
must be able to remain calm and level-headed. Tact is extremely important in being able to diffuse a situation when it arises.
A Moderator must be at least 21 years of age or older, no questions about it. Recommendations from other Chatropolis members are also
very helpful as well and having other members email the Main Moderator on your behalf.
- Honesty and Loyalty
As a Moderator at chatropolis, you will be exposed to some information and
first hand information, processses, or policies that that usual users are not. You will get to see some of the tools that we
have developed to make things easier for the users to get to Moderators, and Moderators to assist the users. You will also be
given the access information to remove users. It's expected that you will not reveal this information to anyone at any point in time.
It's also expected that you will sometimes make mistakes through lack of information, misinformation, and/or "having a bad day". However,
frequent abuse of the boot button will lead to your dismissal.
- Willingness to "roam"
Most Moderators have rooms in which they frequent the most. However,
it is expected that a Moderator will have to be able to move from room to room to handle situations. You may be required at any time by Myself
to plant yourself in a room where bad habits and illegal activities are out of control. You must be willing to pick up and go to any
room at any time to be a Moderator.
- Sacrifice of your time
Last but not least a moderator is going to have to sacrifice their time for the
benefit of Chatropolis and others. Chatropolis is a big place and by becoming a moderator you not only understand that but also understand the
demands placed its users in order to make it great place to chat. You also understand that within those demands will be those that demand to
have it their own way and cause a disruption to the harmony at the behest of others. So by becoming a moderator, you realize you will be giving up
a good slice of your chat time to dedicate to making sure Chatropolis is a great place to be. Since moderators remain anonymous and will never
give out their details to anyone then trying to play a dual role of fraternizing chatter and watchful moderator will not occur. If you say that you
will make that sacrfice but actions do not back up your words, then you could be dismissed as a moderator. If you are not willing to give up a
good bit of your time to be a moderator then please do not apply.
Please note, that these are all subject to interpretation as the Main Moderator sees fit. Exceptions are rare, but might be made.
I have read the Moderator Agreement and understand it fully.
